Increasing Access to Care in Underserved Communities—Care Free Medical

Care Free Medical is the primary care home for more than 7,000 adults and children with limited access to health care. It is the second largest safety-net clinic in Ingham County, Mich., second only to the Ingham County Health Department. With the passage of the Affordable Care Act, most of Care Free's patients have transitioned to Medicaid, but Care Free still sees patients who don't have health insurance.

Care Free provides medical, dental, optometry, gynecology, pediatric and behavioral health services. Founded on the belief that every individual deserves access to quality, compassionate health and dental care, Care Free works with its patients to create comprehensive and preventive care plans that encourage healthy lifestyles.

Due to the recent cuts in funding to Community Mental Health, Care Free is now offering medical management, in addition to therapy, for complex psychiatric diagnoses including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, PTSD and others.
