Family Medicine for America’s Health, the organization behind Health is Primary, is a collaboration between the nation’s eight leading family medicine organizations to drive continued improvement of the U.S. health care system and demonstrate the value of true primary care.
About the Campaign
Health is Primary is a communications campaign to advocate for the values of family medicine, demonstrate the benefits of primary care, and engage patients in our health care system. Our aim is to build a primary care system that reflects the values of family medicine, puts patients at the center of care, and improves the health of all Americans.
The campaign is showcasing the individuals, organizations, and communities that are making health primary so we can build on their success to ensure that everyone has access to the benefits of primary care.
Family physicians are personal doctors for people of all ages and health conditions. They are a reliable first contact for health concerns and directly address most health care needs. Through enduring partnerships, family physicians help patients prevent, understand, and manage illness, navigate the health system and set health goals. Family physicians and their teams adapt their care to the unique needs of their patients and communities. They use data to monitor and manage their patient population, and use the best science available to prioritize services most likely to benefit health. They are ideal leaders of health care systems and partners for public health.

Stories of Primary Care
Health is Primary is collecting stories around the country to showcase examples of innovative community-level initiatives that are improving primary care and delivering on the Triple Aim of better care and better quality at a lower cost.
In 2015 the campaign collected stories and held events in Seattle, Raleigh, Chicago, Denver and Detroit.
In 2016 and 2017, Health is Primary will continue to collect local stories of innovation and transformation, with a focus on the following markets: California, Georgia, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky, New Jersey, Arizona, Minnesota, Mississippi and Rhode Island.
The campaign will highlight stories from these and other markets in national events and outreach with patients, payers, policymakers and purchasers.
